Make stunning pieces of jewellery at our beginners jewellery making course starting this February! During this six week course, learn a variety of jewellery making techniques under the careful guidance of jeweller and teacher Vanessa Miller.
You will learn the skills to make two rings and a pendant, all made from sterling silver, that will be yours to keep.
You will use a range of jewellery making tools and equipment, and will learn jewellery making skills including:
- Measuring (sizing, measuring metal length)
- Marking and saw piercing
- Soldering and pickling
- Finishing techniques (filing, buffing, polishing)
- Reshape metal using rolling mill
No experience is necessary as this course is for beginners. Vanessa will demonstrate each technique and be on hand to support your learning during the six weeks.
The workshop at the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter has all the tools and equipment you need to make your rings and pendant. The course fee of £195.00 includes sterling silver to make two rings and a pendant, copper sheet to practice techniques, a starter kit of saw blades, wet and dry paper and a dust mask. Additional equipment can be purchased for a small cost: wet and dry paper £1.10 each, saw blades £2.00 set of 12.
You will be provided with eye protection. Students must wear flat closed-toe shoes and long hair must be tied back.
The course takes place on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm – 9.00pm on the following dates:

- 29th March
This course is suitable for adults. It is a course for beginners, but all levels are welcome. As the course is led by a fully qualified tutor, you do not need any experience.
At the time of advertising, there are not expected to be government Covid restrictions. If changes occur and new guidelines and restrictions are introduced, we will notify guests who have booked to advise how this affects the course.
