Birmingham born Julie Dexter is a world renowned singer, songwriter and producer who has won numerous international awards, and returns to the Jam House stage after three years absence.
Residing now in Atlanta, Georgia, Julie heads up her own Ketch a Vibe record label, releasing a catalogue of albums and singles that demonstrate the range of musical styles – from Jazz to World Music, Soul and Latin. Julie’s single “Ketch a Vibe” was featured in national radio ads for Democratic Presidential Candidate Senator Barack Obama.
Performing with her own band tonight, Julie is also part of the award-winning jazz quartet J-LIFE, and she has regularly shared the stage with this generation’s cutting-edge soul artists, including Jill Scott, Bilal, Amel Larrieux, Don-E, Omar, Loose Ends, Third World and Maxi Priest to name a few.
Fans and critics across the globe have followed her journey through the circles of Jazz, Broken-Beat, Bossa-Nova, Reggae, Afro-Beat and Soul and she was recently honored at the Black Women in Jazz Awards with the Afro Caribbean Soul of Jazz Award.
Tonight, Julie brings her own show to the Jam House. This really is a “don’t miss” evening.
