Join expert archaeologists in our quest for lost and buried gravestones in Key Hill Cemetery. No experience necessary, registration required
Event Details
We’re looking for lost and buried gravestones in Key Hill Cemetery to help us tell more stories of local people.
No experience necessary, all equipment provided. Come along and learn how to trowel a trench with our expert archaeologists. Drop in all day to see what we are up to or register to have a go. Find us by the Icknield Street gate just inside Key Hill Cemetery.
Suitable for adults and children aged 10 years and over. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. We intend to take photos and video for local news, social media and a project video, including aerial footage with a drone. If you do not wish to be photographed or filmed, please let us know. We will provide you with a lanyard so we can blur your features out. Please wear clothes which you don’t mind getting dirty and sensible (closed toe) shoes.
This shallow excavation will not disturb any graves or human remains, we’re only looking for gravestones which were buried in the 1960s.
This dig is taking place as part of our Our Stones Our Stories project, funded by Birmingham City Council Celebrating Communities funding and is in partnership with Explore the Past and Caring For God’s Acre.
