Indie Midlands Presents Bryony Williams + Special Guests
Bryony Williams
Previously in the electro-pop duo Field Harmonics, since going solo Bryony has developed and refined her music over the past three years, culminating in the critically acclaimed and recently released EP, Conscious. This new musical direction has resulted in Bryony being highlighted as one of the ‘25 to watch in the Midlands in 2019’ by BBC WM and shortlisted for ‘Best Record’ by Birmingham Music Awards 2019, and has shared the stage with the likes of Hazel English, Stevie Parker, Charlotte Carpenter, Martha Ffion, Japanese Breakfast and The Goon Sax.
Bryony’s music has developed into dreamy, hook laden indie-pop-folk soundscape; taking influence from the likes of Anna Calvi, Cocteau Twins, and Marika Hackman. Her personal politics and the need to break the patriarchal industry structures have driven Bryony to found her own DIY label, Grrrl Groannn.
“With a knack for writing frank and ambitious gritty alt-pop, this Midlands-based musician is one to watch out for in 2018.”
– Record of the Day
“Every now and then an artist comes along who excites you and just grabs your attention, Bryony Williams is that artist.”
– KMMReviews
“Bryony exudes a PJ Harvey-esque epic”
– Indie Midlands
“Like Anna Fox Rochinski, Kim Gordon or even Girlpool, Williams can display fragility, anger and sadness all within one song.”
– BrumNotes Magazine.

Quentin Francis
Quentin Francis are a midlands-based supergroup spearheaded by Matty George of The Sunset Beach Hut, with Luke McCrohon (TSBH) on bass, Ross Carley of Echo Beach! on lead guitar and James Morris of La Dharma on drums.
Fawner
Fawner are a 4-piece experimental grunge outfit based in Bristol, taking influence from artists ranging between Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, Queens of The Stone Age and Wolf Alice.
Having formed in late 2016, the band have released their debut album, an E.P and a few singles, most recently ‘Melt’, after a direction and line-up change in mid 2019, all alongside playing shows across the UK. They create a unique blend of dreamy vocals, cutting riffs and driving bass to create atmospheric, emotional cuts.
Their most recent release ‘Melt’ is their heaviest song to date, combining elements of spoken word, thrashy, aggressive guitar and dark, crushing basslines.

Yellow King are a band formed in 2013 from the Midlands. Drawing on varied influences including Pearl Jam, Qotsa, Alice in Chains, Floyd, Foos and Soundgarden resulting in a grunge/metal/desert/southern rock sound led by heavy, gritty, guitar driven riffs with melodies and breakdowns that will smash you in the face!
“If the common good has got to make up fairy tales, then it’s not good for anybody.”
——–
Hailing from all over the Midlands, UK, Ghozer are a 4 piece fuzz, hard rock band. Formed in 2018 through long time friendships, new introductions and a mutual love of stoner doom rock.
Influences include Red Fang, Russian Circles, Queens Of The Stone Age, Kyuss, Soundgarden, Monolord & Black Sabbath.
“These lads have crafted a fantastic blend of prog and doom which there is not enough of in the oversaturated and wildly popular genre. The influences are all there within tones and sound but the energy and song writing is a different kettle of fish and that’s what makes Ghozer stand out.” [RIFFTASTIC, 2019]
——–
Cornflakes at Kelly’s are a Punk Rock band based in Coventry, England. Formed in early 2019, the four piece worked fast to release their debut single Honey It’s Kinda Hard in early July, with their second single, Dynamite, released on October 10th. Known for their fast music and onstage dynamic, these lads are racing to the top.
——–
In world full of avocados, anxiety ridden snowflakes and a burning urge to to take offence and push personal agendas on others, one band seeks to address all this with a heavy yet melodic injection of riffs and captivating lyricism. With songs written about a mix of life experiences and the mass dissatisfaction of today’s modern world, they strongly raise a middle finger up to society and its outdated structures. Time is running out. ‘knock knock’ you’re on Deafs Door.
——–
Chlorine are an alternative rock band from Birmingham, UK. Mike Kinsella’s work over the years with his various musical endeavors has been nothing short of foundational, from early days with Cap’n Jazz right up until recently with American Football’s unforeseen and excellent second act. Even with his long list of contributions to course-setting bands, Kinsella never reveals more of his internal world than he does with the softly drawn songs of his long-running solo project Owen.
On previous albums, sarcasm and wry humour would dull the sting of heavier lyrics. Here there are still traces of Kinsella’s trademark humour, but instead of offering a winking dismissal of negative thoughts, it takes the songs to even darker places. Easily the most intense Owen album, The Avalancheis also the most beautifully crafted. Kinsella goes deeper than ever before, with self-reflection so painfully blunt it’s sometimes difficult to look at head-on.
It’s a guided walk through one of life’s more difficult chapters, resulting in nine of the best Owen songs ever penned and an album that’s as heartbreaking as it is magnificent.

Event Details
Devoted to recreating the atmosphere of a live Joy Division gig, Transmission emulate the sound of one of the most inventive, evocative and influential groups of their era. Joy Division were formed in the late 1970s and dissolved in May 1980 after the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis. The remaining members went on to form New Order and have achieved much critical and commercial success. The influence of Joy Division, however, was far reaching. They were considered the pioneering band of the post-punk movement of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Forty years on you can still relive the dark cavernous sound of Joy Division through Transmission the U.K’s number one Joy Division tribute act.
