There is joy and beauty in humble food ingredients. Gareth attempts to draw attention to natural abundance, sunlight, shadows brilliant colour and texture through striking design. It’s his invitation to look at what we have already, right in front of us, not focus on what we don’t have. A lemon doesn’t envy an orange’s ‘orange-ness’, it just tries to be the best version of a lemon it can be in the time it has. We could learn a lot from this.

Ryan Everson’s current body of work delves into the intricate world of graffiti laden, doorways, urban decay, and the concept of palimpsest, all encapsulated in the realm of miniature painting. Through meticulous detail, he aims to capture the essence of forgotten spaces and the stories they silently bare. These weathered thresholds and decaying urban landscapes become his canvas, each layer of paint revealing the history and transformation of these once vibrant places. In his work, he seeks to not only preserve the memory of these spaces, but also to evoke a sense of nostalgia, curiosity and hidden beauty can be found amidst decay.

Ross McCormick obtained a BA in Furniture & Product Design at Nottingham Trent University (2006) and an MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts (2018). He is currently Artist in Residence at Coventry University.
A principal theme in Ross’ work is ‘the representation and effect of labour’ linking production to the everyday. Influenced by his industrial class roots, he embraces a deconstructivist language that investigates tensions and struggles surrounding a labour economy after postmodernism in an effort to stimulate new ideas around Arts & Engineering.
Through a social realist lens, he often re-surfaces past workers’ lived experience or constructs social sculptural interventions to identify new narratives that engage in a dialogue around process and production. Themes are based around ‘Rights to Protest’, ‘Normative Masculinity’, ‘Immaterial Labour’ and Imperialism. Taking a holistic approach towards the re-use of salvaged automotive readymade objects, he explores the metaphysical relationship between industrial production and spiritual consciousness.

Samuel Boulton’s inaugural venture, The Vanguard, the UK’s premier Cocktails Bar & Meadery, opened its doors in early 2018. The resounding success of The Vanguard served as the catalyst for the launch of The Pineapple Club in 2020, a venture that swiftly garnered awards and widespread recognition. In 2021, Boulton marked a significant milestone with the publication of his debut book, “The Vermouth Ambassador’s Guide to Modern Drinking.” Subsequently, in 2022, he introduced Shibuya Underground, an establishment dedicated to Japanese sake and cocktails. During this period, Boulton committed to formalising his expertise in sake and shochu, pursuing various courses and certifications.
In 2022, Boulton assumed the role of judge for the Shochu and sake categories at the International Wine and Spirits Challenge. Building on his experiences, he released his latest book in 2023, titled “The Art of Mixing Koji Cocktails.” This publication serves as a culmination of his extensive journeys throughout Japan, with the aim of sharing his passion and knowledge with fellow bartenders. Boulton endeavours to integrate unique Japanese products into Western cocktails, and his exploration into the world of sake and shochu continues to evolve.”

Catch The Melvin Hancox band live at The Actress & Bishop – 28th April.
FREE ENTRY – DM us to reserve an area or contact us at info@theactressandbishop.co.uk
“The word genius is often over used but what else could the man whose show stopping performance at Abertillary Blues Festival on his ’57 custom three pick-upped black beauty Les Paul be coined”, “Flights and notations of mystery and imagination crashed to Earth like space shrapnel” and a more to the point quote “Why isn’t this man a star?”. Just a few of the many positive media quotations Melvin Hancox has experienced of late.
Born to song writer and playwright Stephen and artist Lynette of late Melvin has had material played on the BBC, Rick Wakeman’s Planet Rock Show and live interviews and sessions on mainstream national radio along with writing and television work.
He has currently formed a band in his own image after many years of bringing his talent to others outfits. Playing his first gig at 12 yrs., getting his first record deal at 16 yrs. and touring Europe and gaining experience in both radio and television, forming “Vincent Flatts Final Drive” and scoring his second deal at 18 yrs. whilst also touring Costa Rica and The States and guesting on others sessions along the way, through various permutations he has worked with Ray Phillips: Budgie, Man, Tony McPhee, Tom Farnell: Savoy Brown, Canned Heat, Paul Hancox [no relation] ex-legendary Chicken Shack drummer with whom Melvin occasionally performs as “Imagination Lady”, Kex Gorin: Magnum Mick Bonham [yes related] and Ace Kefford, whilst going on to write, produce and release six highly original albums fronting his own trio as well a solo offerings.
Now with the addition of Matt Little on Bass Guitar (son of Curtis and brother of X-Factor drummer Jamie) Matt’s pedigree includes stints with The Mothers of Prevention, original Joanne Shaw Taylor bassist and like his brother a much in demand and “on the scene” session man. On Percussion Tony Baylis is “The Man” whose C.V. reads as a history of Rock & Roll beginning with Pye Records in the 70’s joining ex-Move, Steve Gibbons Band legend Trevor Burton and recording the now much sought after Double Zero album thereafter touring Costa Rica and the States with Melvin and touring once again with Ruf Records artist Ian Parker, Tony is back with Melvin who is now accompanied by a sympathetic and adaptable rhythm section with several years’ pedigree. Melvin has just signed a new management deal and completed his fifth season as presenter and writer of the Radio B.O.S.S. Show that’s “The Big Oversoul Sounds” for American college radio and was recently described by one writer as a talented and witty individual reminiscent of Kenny Everett. We could go on for pages but we’re sure you more than get the picture. Needless to say if you like your blues/rock played with more psychedelic experience and imagination than most “The Melvin Hancox Band” is a show that really should not be missed!!, why even Chrissie Hynde says she digs the band!!! Ya dig?
